Latin Root Question

Assignment: Your comment should reflect the answer to the question: What do you consider to be the most useful Latin root that you have learned thus far and how do your believe that your knowledge of Latin roots will be helpful to you in the future?

  5. I can't specify one Latin root that has really helped me, because they all have. I've noticed these roots have helped me in english class and it will continue to help me all the way through college.

  6. I think the number roots were the most helpful for me. I do believe that knowing the roots that I do know will help me in knowing how to break other words down to figure out what they mean.

  7. They all have really been helpful, but i would have to say that the most helpful are probably the roots that are different and you wouldn't necessarily know the meaning of it by how it sounds. For example, retro-to go backwards or back or again; I never really understood exactly what someone meant when they used "In retrospect" but thanks to knowing the roots retro and spec, I know that it means to see in the past, like reviewing events that already happened.
    Also, these are helpful with figuring out the meaning of words, new vocabulary, and will help in many situations.

  8. Every root I have learned will make me a better english student and I am glad I have learned so many. There have been times when I figured out words just by the roots and it has really helped me take tests and do assignments. Thanks Mrs. Taylor! :)

  9. That is a very tough question! All of the latin roots have helped me, from taking a test to just everyday life. I feel very prepared to take the SAT knowing i have taken Etymology. Thank You Mrs. Taylor for expanding my brain and knowledge!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I think that mal is the most used latin root for me. Latin roots will be helpful because if you do not know the meaning of a word, you can figure it out by the roots.

  18. The most useful Latin root that I have learned so far would be the decum, octa, and the other number roots. They have been put to use in Geometry as well as Algebra2.

  23. All of the Latin and Greek roots have helped me a lot. My vocabulary has increased dramatically since i have taken etymology. I couldn't choose just one word that has helped me the most. Im glad that i hve taken etymology because it will help me a lot in college and if i ever decide to go into the medical field.

  24. i would have to say the (pugna) has helped me alot in my vocabulary. The reason why i believe pugna has helped me the most is because i am always ready to fight. and pugna means to fight. i also use the word pugnactious alot in my vocabulary.

  28. The most helpful root word we learned has been 'bene'. 'Bene' means good and it has helped me on english tests and there are alot of words that use bene. Such as beneficial, and this word has been very beneficial to me.

  43. There is not a single root that you can say is the "most important root to learn." All of the roots are useful because they help determine the meaning of a word. My knowledge of latin roots will be useful in the future because when reading a book I will be able to break up a word I see into different roots if any of the roots that we had in class are contained in the word.

  48. I would say glos/glot is a very important root. why? because if we didnt have tongues we couldn't speak. This definetly expanded my knowledge of works that i could use in future writings.

  68. I think the body part roots have helped me the most. Although all of the roots we learned will be extremely helpful. If I am presented with a word I am unfamiliar with I can just break it down and pick out the roots and find out the meaning.

  70. im probably going to say that ed is the most helpful root word because there are some people like me in this world that have a love for food...Ed meaning food. It will help me in the future now because everytime I see this word it will remind me of my love for food.

  76. My favorite root from this semester has been the phrase Amor Vinict Omnia. It translates to Love Conquers All. Learning many Latin and Greek roots has helped me increase my vocabulary and improved my spanish grade.
